Drawing design requirements in AutoCAD

If you are a designer or drawer, you should follow the next steps and rules before sending the cutting files to be processed:

  • Drawing measures in millimeters.

  • The workpiece to be cut should belong to Layer 0.

  • If the workpiece to be cut is a closed shape, it should be joined by a perfect closed polyline. If the cut is not a closed polyline, it should be a continuous polyline.

  • You should draw a rectangle that represents the metallic sheet to be sent to LGD Laser Industrial E.U.

  • Our machines have a table size of 1500x 3000 mm (5´x10´) and 1150x2400 mm (4`x 8`) for Laser and Plasm cutting process respectively.

  • The workpieces to be cut should be included inside the rectangle that represents the material sheet. If you do not follow this rule, a portion of the workpiece may be omited by the cutting system. As a result, the processed workpiece may be defective.

Finally, if you order a plasm cutting service, you should have in mind the following rules:

  • Use the offset command in AutoCAD (0,5 mm) for each entity that shapes the workpiece. The resulting entities should belong to Layers 1, 2, 3, etc. The corresponding layer colors are:

    • Layer 1. Red color. It should be used for holes. These entities will be processed at the begining of the cutting activity.

    • Layer 2. Yellow color. These entities belong to the second level of the cutting process. They usually are related with the external contour of the workpiece. Layer 2 entities are processed after Layer 1 entities are cut.

    • Layer 3. Green color. These entities belong to the third level of the cutting process. Layer 3 entities are processed after all Layer 1 and 2 entities are cut.

    • Layer 4. Cyan color. Four level of the cutting process.

  • After that, you should draw 2 parallel lines that represent the begin point and end point of the cut for each entity. These lines are 5 mm long and 0,5 mm separated.

The previous linearguides are shown in the images. Also, take care with the orientation of the parallel lines in holes and contour. The white entities (Layer 0) represent the real size of the workpiece.

An important requeriment to be considered is the minimum distance between parts. A 5 mm distance will be suitable in the majority of the cases.
